With so many people hurting from the coronavirus impact on our wonderful peninsula, it is incredible why the Delmarva poultry industry is destroying 2 million chickens. There have to be creative common-sense solutions to prevent this ghastly waste of finite food now (and in the future).
Empowered decision-makers most surely can solve this problem. As one of many examples, we saw last week about an Idaho farmer who gave away 700,000 pounds of potatoes rather than destroy the crop…common sense.
Thinking about chickens (and the lack thereof in our grocery stores), history buffs will remember Herbert Hoover’s famous 1928 campaign slogan and promise to the American people of “a chicken in every pot.” Then, after the stock market crashed in 1929, this campaign slogan was used against Hoover by the Democrats in the 1932 presidential campaign.
In this historical context, please think about the promise to “Make America Great Again.” Are you and our country better off now than in 2016?
Are you safer now in 2020 from infection, economic catastrophe, and wars than in 2016? The MAGA promise may appear pretty pathetic in the fall. That may be why Jeffery Gundlach, the famous Bond King and Trump backer, announced that he is shorting the S&P 500 and betting big that stock markets will test the early March lows.
The Washington Post and New York Times reported in the last week that the president was informed in January and February by multiple reports and multiple times about the coronavirus threat to our safety, but he chose to ignore the warnings from experts.
Politico reported last Friday an RNC memo telling Republican surrogates to attack China and don’t defend Trump’s managerial failures of the COVID-19 because they are “indefensible.” His comments on disinfectants last week and his statement on Monday that he is “not responsible” for people ingesting bleach and other disinfectants cannot be defended.
If it is China’s fault, why didn’t Trump do something about China? Rather, why did the president praise Chinese Premier Li for his “transparency” and excellent handling of COVID-19? Moreover, decisive USA executive branch leadership should have taken steps to protect American people and prevent the now 20 million people unemployed and 60,000 dead.
