With students missing traditional end-of-school celebrations because of COVID-19, Threasa Brittingham of Milton found a new way to cheer this year’s graduates, from preschool students through college.
Brittingham, who said she is Milton born and bred, and a Cape High class of 1988 grad, reached out through her Simply Milton Facebook page to ask parents to sign up children who are graduating from preschool, kindergarten, fifth grade, eighth grade, high school, basic training and college.
Then, she asked page followers to sign up as “Grad Fairies” to assemble gifts to deliver anonymously to the Milton grads.
“I got the idea from the wine fairies,” Brittingham said, referring to a Facebook group in which members signed up to request and deliver wine and other goodies as a surprise to brighten other members' days.
From June 1-7, Brittingham and her Grad Fairies from Milton, Florida, Virginia, California and Pennsylvania visited or had gifts delivered to 47 Milton graduates.
“We had a really amazing time just dropping gifts off anonymously,” Brittingham said. “We are all already excited for next year. Our reward was seeing the kids happy.”
