Unity Spiritual Center is opening their doors this Sunday as we start a new Series for July, “The Journey and Values of the African American Experience.” This is a four part Series presented by four of our African-American  members of our Unity family. Diane Mitchell will present “Let There Be light,” a look at the history of African Americans. Her presentation will be this Sunday, July 5th. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn. with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Notre Dame University in Baltimore City. Diane was an educator close to thirty years in Baltimore City.  For 16 years Diane was an Artist’s Way spiritual guide based on the book by Julia Cameron – an artist’s recovery and unfolding into a more creative and spiritual life. She is a trained certified leader of Contemplative Prayer Groups and Retreats: Transforming Community through Shalem Institute in Washington, D.C. It is Diane’s desire to continue her ministry on the Eastern Shore and beyond to “Transform out of the Norm” and to be an agent for positive change during these times of transformation. She is married to David Mitchell.

Next week, July 12th,  Leroy White, Jr. will present, “Black Lives Matter (To Who?).  Leroy White has been a student of New Thought since 2007 and a member of Unity Spiritual Center since 2016. As a black man born, raised and educated on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Leroy has experienced racism first hand and will give his testimony about his many encounters with racism. Leroy will explain why a movement like Black Lives Matters is still as relevant today as at any time in history. Leroy is the proud father of two intelligent and outgoing daughters, Keisha and Lequiesha, and the husband of his lovely wife Angela of 18 years. He has been employed at the City of Salisbury Public Work for 27 years and he and his family just purchased their second home in Pittsville, MD last September.

July 19th, Carolyn Showell will discuss, “Spirituality: A Shift in Consciousness.” Carolyn’s talk will explore the root cause of racism, sexism, and separateness from a spiritual perspective. She will examine metaphorically the biblical story of Adam and Eve and how eating from a Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil leads to duality and separation and how a shift in consciousness can lead us back to oneness and unity.

And on July 26, Angela Taylor will conclude the series with her discussion on A Call to Action - Waiting is Justice Denied.”  She is often called a Folk Artist but prefer to be a storyteller of conscious thought. Her inspiration came from my grandfather who performed with Cab Callaway during the Harlem Renaissance and my father.  The Development of my company Drayton Graphic Art and Illustration was to help my community through children's exposure to visual art.  I am a member of the NAACP, Delaware Division of the Arts, Mispillion Art League just naming a few.  My illustration of children's books, exhibits, murals, online galleries, social media and visual art camps for children gives me great joy.
