In February, Tyler Reinhart joined 80 company members in the annual Schell Brothers Biggest Loser contest with the hope of winning while getting in great shape. To do so, he decided to hire Antonio’s Training Systems to help achieve his goals. By mid-March, the coronavirus had shut down public gyms and forced us to come up with creative home workout routines for him to continue making weekly progress. Despite the fact that all he had to work with was a couple dumbbells, an Olympic bar and some assorted weights, Tyler made the best of his situation, and because of his persistence, he won first place in the before-and-after division.
Tyler was no stranger to the gym before starting our 12-week body transformation. In fact, he had already been lifting weights five to six days a week, and also boxed on weekends as a hobby and a way to boost his cardiovascular shape. However, in order to build a foundation of strength and prime his body to get constant results, we reduced him to only three days of proper weight training followed by three shorter, more-intense cardio sessions. As he grew stronger and more capable, we slowly increased the time and frequency of cardiovascular training, and added weight and repetitions to his resistance workouts to ensure he was constantly challenged.
As expected, Tyler worried he wasn’t doing enough work to get results. “After the first couple weeks, I have to admit I couldn’t see how this program was going to work because it went against everything I had done in the past. I was working out less with lighter weights than I had before,” he said. But it wasn’t long before the results he was seeing convinced him that we were on the right track, and he bought in 100 percent. “About a month into the program, I began to see how the system made sense,” he said. “It’s about losing fat and preserving muscle mass, and that’s exactly what was happening. The workouts were insane and they worked. I began to have more energy, confidence, and I saw huge changes in my stomach and the rest of my body.”
During the 12-week program, Tyler lost an average of two pounds a week, but it wasn’t until the end of the three months that he could wrap his head around how drastically his body had changed. By the time Tyler finished the full 12 weeks, he lost 23 ½ pounds and dropped 38.5 percent of his starting body fat without losing a single ounce of muscle. His physical appearance changed so dramatically that his waistline went from pudgy to six-pack abs in just three months. As a result, he finished on top in the before-and-after division of the Schell Brothers Biggest Loser contest and was awarded $3,500 for his hard work. He also qualified for the $1,000 bonus for losing over 30 percent of his starting body fat and was reimbursed the full the cost of my program courtesy of Schell Brothers.
When asked what he learned from the program, he said, “I learned there is definitely a way to build your physique properly, and it’s not about how much weight you lift or how often you work out, but rather whether you take your time and squeeze and isolate the muscles, follow the diet and work out properly.”
