Rehoboth board of election meeting Aug. 3

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Elections has scheduled a meeting for 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 3. The meeting will take place virtually. The agenda calls for an appointment of absentee judges and possible discussion on any other issues related to the election taking place Saturday, Aug. 8.

Members of the public wishing to speak will be required to preregister at awomack@cityofrehoboth.com.

Special Rehoboth meeting set Aug. 4

Rehoboth Beach has scheduled a special commissioner meeting for 3 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4. The meeting will take place virtually. The agenda calls for further discussion on a comprehensive action plan for reopening the city from restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of the public wishing to speak will be required to preregister at awomack@cityofrehoboth.com.

Lewes police committee meets Aug. 3

The Lewes Police Review Ad Hoc Committee will meet virtually at 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 3. The only listed item on the agenda is approval of minutes. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net. 

Lewes Mitigation Planning Team to meet

The Lewes Mitigation Planning Team will meet virtually at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 3. The group will discuss the city’s emergency operations plan, resilient community reports, phragmites mitigation plan and the planning commission’s work on wetlands buffers and setbacks. The team will also discuss the city’s review of the Community Rating System for flood insurance discounts and a 2020 public outreach agenda. A link is at lewes.civicweb.net. 

Lewes historic preservation to meet

The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will meet virtually at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4. The group will consider a request to renovate the existing dwelling at 104 Second St. into a real estate office and residential unit above. Changes include new porches and side and rear additions. Commissioners will also consider a request for the demolition of a rear unit of a two-family dwelling at 404 Rodaline Ave., for the construction of a new dwelling unit. They will also discuss the resurvey of the historic district, and regulations related to wireless towers and 5G systems. A link can be found at lewes.civicweb.net.

Trail will close for herbicide application

The Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail, from Cool Spring Road to Savannah Road, will be closed from 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, until 5 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, for herbicide application for weed control. The Delaware Department of Transportation and its contractor only apply herbicides that are registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA has determined through its testing and review process that when these herbicides are applied according to the label instructions, their application poses no unreasonable risks to human health, wildlife or the environment.

Drive-thru Food Bank distribution Aug. 3

The Food Bank of Delaware has scheduled drive-thru mobile pantries in each Delaware county for families struggling to afford food. The first one is scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 3, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, off Route 404, west of Georgetown. Participants must make sure their trunks or back seats are cleared out so volunteers can load food with minimal interaction. Register in advance at AugSussexCountyFood.eventbrite.com. To volunteer, go to https://fbd.volunteerhub.com/event/index/12. Service will be first-come, first-served and on-site registration will also be available. Recipients must bring proof of ID and residency.

Sussex council not meeting Aug. 4

Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, Aug. 4. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11, in the county administration building, Georgetown.
