Delaware Humane pet adoption fees reduced in August

August 22, 2020

Delaware Humane Association, a statewide animal welfare organization with adoption centers in Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington, has officially kicked off its participation in the nationally recognized Clear the Shelters campaign.

During August, the organization encourages community members to help Clear the Shelters. To encourage potential adopters, all adoption fees will be reduced $30 through Monday, Aug. 31, including for puppies and kittens. Delaware Humane’s mission is to make friends for life by connecting people with animals and by building strong relationships to better serve the community. Its participation in Clear the Shelters does just that.

All animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworm (if of age) and FeLV/FIV, microchipped and examined by a veterinarian.

“In years past, our one-day Clear the Shelters event has drawn in large crowds of people who line up at our doors before we even open,” said Patrick Carroll, DHA executive director. “While COVID-19 has certainly made hosting adoption events with large crowds difficult, running a month-long virtual adoption event is a safe, accessible solution. By offering discounted adoption prices throughout the entire month of August, we aim to help connect more animals than ever before with loving homes, all while remaining socially distant and healthy.”

In the online application process, interested parties can browse all available dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens on Delaware Humane’s website. Approved potential adopters will then be contacted to set up a socially distant, in-person meet-and-greet appointment.

This year’s event also boasts a new donation component – the perfect solution for anyone who wants to contribute but may not be ready or able to adopt an animal. The donation offering aims to generate critical funds for the organization’s continued success, which has been impacted by the effects of COVID-19 since March. Donations also help cover the discounted fees DHA is offering.

Delaware Humane Association, along with participating animal shelters across the country, has been able to help nearly 21,000 animals find their forever homes since 2015 through Clear the Shelters. It’s because of supporters that they are able to provide discounted pet adoption services.
