UUSD to meet Nov. 29

Green Drinks to meet online Nov. 30
Rehoboth Beach Green Drinks will meet virtually from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 30. The focus will be on food insecurity and food waste, and one local church organization’s hunger relief efforts.
Guest speaker will be Gerrie Boisjoly, food rescue coordinator at Epworth United Methodist Church. Boisjoly leads a team of committed volunteers who head out to local restaurants and grocery stores to pick up donations seven days a week. She will briefly discuss food insecurity, the Good Samaritan Food Donation Act, the food rescue program at Epworth and how to confront waste starting at home. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, about 40 percent of food in the U.S. is never eaten, but one in eight Americans struggles to put enough food on the table. Wasting food has significant environmental consequences: It wastes the water and energy used to produce it, and it generates greenhouse gases.

Dec. 1 webinar to cover financial planning needs
Jeremy Lambert of Chesapeake Wealth Advisors will present a virtual seminar at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 1, on why successful financial plans integrate wealth management, estate planning, and tax planning. His segment will review Roth conversions, tax-efficient investing, retirement income, and how to position assets to benefit the next generation. Leslie DiPietro, Esq., from Procino-Wells & Woodland LLC will discuss estate planning tips, and Diane Barlow from Beebe Medical Foundation will highlight charitable giving strategies. DART food drive a success
Delaware Transit Corporation announced Nov. 20 that DART’s 23rd annual Stuff The Bus Thanksgiving food drive collected 13 tons, or 26,092 pounds, of food. The week-long food drive took place Nov. 9 to 14 at the Safeway in Rehoboth, the Dover Safeway, Walmart in Milford, Rodney Square in Wilmington, and the ShopRite stores at First State Plaza, Brandywine Commons and Four Seasons Shopping Centers. In June, DART held the Stuff The Bus COVID19 Relief food drive that collected 4.5 tons, or 9,097 pounds, of food. In total, Stuff The Bus food drives in 2020 collected 17.5 tons, or 35,189 pounds, of food that the Food Bank of Delaware distributed through its hunger relief partners to Delaware residents in need of food assistance.
Easterseals offers Lifespan Respite grant funding
Caregiver burnout can put one’s physical and mental health at risk. Respite allows caregivers the time to relax, clear their mind, and find some peace in their busy life. Through Easterseals respite programs, partially funded by the Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities, caregivers could qualify for grant funding to pay for care of their loved ones while they get a break.
New applications for Lifespan Respite funding are now being accepted. Go to bit.ly/lifespanrespite to complete an online application, or call the Community Outreach Department at 302-221-2087 to complete over the phone.
Kindergarten registration underway in Indian River district
November is Kindergarten Registration Awareness Month, and the Indian River School District is currently conducting electronic kindergarten registration for the 2021-22 school year.
Registration documents for incoming kindergarten students can be found at irsd.net by clicking on the blue registration button.
Documents can be filled out and submitted electronically to each school, and parents will receive a confirmation email from the school upon receipt.
Kindergarten registration is for children who will be 5 years old on or before Monday, Aug. 31.
Parents registering their child must also submit electronic copies of an original birth certificate, proof of immunization and proof of residency.
