The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, in partnership with the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, is accepting end-of-year donations to the Geoff and Ken Derrickson Memorial Scholarship fund.
Now in its third year, the fund was established by Betsy Baumeister and Bob Derrickson to honor the lives of their twin sons, Ken and Geoff Derrickson, who died at young ages. Baumeister and Derrickson never forgot the support and care from Rehoboth's first responders for each of their sons. The scholarship is intended for a member or family member of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company or the Rehoboth Beach Police Department.
Scholarship applicants must be a member or family member with either department or become a member of either department. Teens ages 15-18 who are interested in becoming a junior member of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company may go to rehobothbeachfire.com.
"Being a part of a law enforcement family and losing a loved one in the line of duty, I have seen how our first responders give of themselves for our safety. The Geoff and Ken Derrickson Memorial Scholarship Foundation was created to give back to our first responders and their families. Your tax-deductible donation helps support the professionals and their families that give of themselves to us on a daily basis,” said Terri Saracini.
Year-end tax-deductible donations must be received by Thursday, Dec. 31. Payments can be made to Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 372, Rehoboth Beach DE 19971. The memo line should designate Geoff and Ken Derrickson Memorial Scholarship Foundation. The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company is a nonprofit organization.
