Blunt Rochester nominates local students for service academies

February 5, 2021

Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester has nominated 28 Delaware students for admission to United States service academies for the Class of 2025. Each year, members of the U.S. Congress are charged with nominating top candidates for attendance at four service academies: the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. Nominees must then be accepted by the academies to gain admittance.

“As we continue to face unprecedented times, I am filled with pride seeing young Delawareans answering the call to serve our nation in our military,” said Blunt Rochester. “Serving in our nation’s armed forces requires bravery and selfless dedication to their fellow citizens. I was pleased with the high volume of applications my office received this year, and I am honored to nominate these exceptional students to the United States’ prestigious service academies. I wish these nominees the best as they continue in this process and am looking forward to seeing the incredible leaders they become.”

She thanks the selection panel of community members, including active-duty and retired service members, for their work and counsel in recommending these students to the nation’s service academies.

Blunt Rochester’s nominations to the U.S. Air Force Academy include Nathan Poplos of Magnolia, Caesar Rodney High School; and  Natalie Foxwell of Frankford, Worcester Prep School.

Blunt Rochester’s nominations to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy include Christopher Dean of Milton and Evan Davis of Bethany Beach, both of Sussex Tech High School.
