Beacon Middle students Aubrie Smith and Jameson Tingle were recognized Feb. 11 with the African American/Black Achievement Award from the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice.
Teachers said eighth-grader Aubrie Smith has impressed them since day one with her positive attitude, hard work ethic, and dedication to her academics.
Aubrie greets everyone with kindness and a smile, said teachers, who describe her as conscientious, a self-advocate, and someone who values education and demonstrates every aspect of what a Beacon student should be.
Seventh-grader Jameson Tingle is talented in the classroom and on the sports field. Teachers said he earns excellent grades in honors courses and is a true leader. He consistently shows a strong effort, is well-liked by peers and a joy to have in class, according to teachers.
Each student received a $15 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth; SDARJ contributes $10 to each gift card, and Browseabout contributes $5.
SDARJ’s education committee initiated the award to recognize students who represent ideals of leadership, effort and excellence in their schools. Two students from each school in the Cape Henlopen School District will be recognized.
