Phase II of the Lake Avenue streetscape project is all but completed in Rehoboth Beach.

During a commissioner meeting April 16, City Manager Sharon Lynn announced the contractor would be onsite doing final paving the week of April 19. She said the work was expected to be completed by the end of the week.

The most dramatic change is the intersection of Lake Avenue with Olive and Maryland avenues and Third Street. The island at that intersection was extended to create a four-way stop zone. Other changes include widening of all four corners at the Maryland Avenue and Second Street intersection; slightly altering the Olive Avenue end of Second Street so Second Street came into Olive at a 90-degree angle; and an upgrade in stormwater infrastructure.

The city completed Phase I of the project in 2017, installing sidewalks on both sides of Lake Avenue from Rehoboth Avenue to Third Street. The roadway was repaved and utilities were relocated. The federal government put $1.6 million toward the $2.2 million cost of both phases.
