Lewes floodplain subcommittee meets
The Lewes Floodplain Subcommittee of the Lewes Planning Commission will meet virtually at 11 a.m., Friday, April 30. The group will continue discussion on items related to floodplain management. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net.
Warrington Road reopens April 30
Warrington Road between Route 24 and Airport Road is set to reopen Friday, April 30, after being closed for a month to install a roundabout for the new Beebe Healthcare Specialty Surgical Hospital. Motorists are asked to use caution with the new traffic pattern.
Lewes officials to plant tree on Arbor Day
In recognition of Arbor Day, volunteers from the City of Lewes Parks & Recreation Commission will plant a tree in Zwaanendael Park at 10 a.m., Friday, April 30.
The City of Lewes has been honored by the Arbor Day Foundation with a Tree City USA designation for 2020.
Lewes achieved Tree City USA recognition for the 19th consecutive year by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board commissioner, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
Milton council to meet May 3
Milton Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 3, at Grace Church, where a new council member will be appointed. The appointee will be the seventh council member, filling out the remaining term of Councilman Michael Cote, who died April 3. Council will also hold its six-month budget review, discuss a partitioning at 415 Hemlock St., review a request from Quest Adventures to store and rent stand-up paddleboards and kayaks at Milton Memorial Park, discuss a request from Milton Fire Department to close Front Street from the intersection of Union Street and Federal Street to Chestnut Street, and finally, discuss a recommendation to remove a stop sign at the intersection of Mariner Circle and Arch Street.
Blood bank to open new site in Tanger Outlets May 3
Blood Bank of Delmarva will open a new pop-up site Monday, May 3, at Tanger Outlets, Suite 1630, Seaside Outlet Drive, Rehoboth. It will be open two to three days a week through October as a way to bolster the local blood supply during the coming months.
The hours for the first week are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday and 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday. BBD Account Manager Ralph Groves will seek to fill 40 appointments per day.
“Summer collections will be critical, particularly since many of our business partners still cannot hold blood drives,” said BBD Director of Donor Recruitment Marie Forrestal. “It’s important to make donating blood as convenient as possible for Delmarva residents, so we are excited about the potential of this new location in Tanger Outlets.”
BBD’s popular T-shirts will be provided for all donors while supplies last.
Lewes public hearing set May 3
Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a virtual public hearing at 6 p.m., Monday, May 3, regarding proposed ordinances on lot and building standards related to source water protection and sea-level rise. Lewes to discuss middle school May 3

Sussex council budget workshop May 4
Sussex County Council will hold a budget workshop at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 4, at Sussex County Emergency Operations Center in Georgetown in place of its regular meeting. Budget discussions will take place with county council, County Administrator Todd Lawson and staff. The meeting will be available in person and by telephone at 302-394-5036 using code 570176.
Freeman Highway bridge closed May 4
The Freeman Highway bridge in Lewes will undergo routine maintenance the first week of May, resulting in a temporary closure slated for 8 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, May 4.
The Delaware River and Bay Authority maintenance department will be performing a thorough cleaning of the bridge, including flushing out storm drains, and washing steel beams and concrete under the bridge deck.
In case of inclement weather May 4, the temporary closure will occur Wednesday, May 5.
Sussex supports nonprofits with grants
Sussex County Council awarded the following councilmanic grants during its April 27 meeting: $1,000 to Slaughter Neck Community Action Organization Inc. for senior center programs; $1,000 to CHEER Inc. for its 50th Anniversary Gala scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 16; $1,000 to Rehoboth Beach Lions Club Service Foundation for program expenses; $1,100 to Developing Artist Collaboration for a mural project in West Rehoboth; and $2,500 to First State Pickleball Club Inc. for its Light up the Courts project at John M. Clayton Elementary School in Frankford.
DMHOA to meet May 24 via conference call
The Delaware Manufactured Home Owners Association will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 24, via conference call.

DMHOA is a nonprofit organization and the only legislative advocate representing the interests of manufactured housing homeowners living on leased land in Delaware.

Rehoboth museum set to reopen May 15
The Rehoboth Beach Museum has announced plans to reopen Friday, May 15.
After the opening weekend, the museum will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.
