Support no-excuse absentee ballots in Delaware

June 14, 2021

We are fortunate to live in a country where people have the freedom to vote for those who will represent them. Right now, however, an outmoded section of the Delaware Constitution limits our choices by requiring that voters provide the Department of Elections with an “excuse” before they can vote by absentee ballot. Last year, during the pandemic, the General Assembly allowed no-excuse absentee voting on an emergency basis and encountered no problems. Thus, I believe they should make the no-excuse option permanent.

In order to do that, the General Assembly needs to pass an amendment to the Constitution two times. Last year, bipartisan majorities in both House and Senate voted to make no-excuse absentee voting permanent. This year it’s time to finish the process. Please ask your representatives to vote yes on HB 75 and establish No-Excuse Absentee Voting in the First State.
