For several years, Carolyn Kindon of Lewes reached out to members by phone, checking on their health, their medications and their well-being. She also assembled folders with information about the Village Volunteers’ history and the services it offers to prospective members to help them live independently in their home.
On April 23, her 98th birthday, Kindon decided it was time to retire, and at the Village Volunteers office, in the presence of her son Richard from California, and niece Karen Kohn of Lewes, she officially announced her resignation, and gratefully received a large container of flowering plants for her patio. “It was a rewarding experience,” she said. Executive Director Jackie Sullivan of Village Volunteers had the last word. “Being engaged, being committed, you, Carolyn, represent what is best about volunteering.”
