Shelley Grabel, left, and Brenda Sims, longtime residents of Milton, were joined in a legal civil union ceremony Jan. 14, 2012.
The service was performed by Clerk of the Peace Loretta Wootten in Dover.
Sims and Grabel have been together in a partnership for 14-plus years and their dreams of making it official finally became a reality in 2012.
In witness of their special day were Beth Bradley and Debbie Houseal, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Tammy Shelton of Catonsville, Md. Also in attendance were Dave and Cathy Pauliss of Rehoboth Beach.
Their spiritual union, along with a celebration, will take place in June 2012.
