Funland to close July 7 to prepare for fully opening July 8

Wristband option for unlimited rides to continue in afternoons
July 6, 2021

Funland in Rehoboth Beach announced the park will be fully open with no capacity limits starting Thursday, July 8.

To prepare the park for normal, pre-COVID operations, Funland will be closed Wednesday, July 7.

The amusement park will return to the traditional pay-by-ride model with its iconic green tickets. Rides will be open from 1 to 10:30 p.m. daily. Games may open earlier depending on staffing levels.

Funland will continue to offer a wristband option that proved popular during the last year. Wristbands will cost $20, and allow customers unlimited rides between 1 and 4 p.m., when the park is typically quieter and less crowded. The wristband option is available seven days a week.

Jungle of Fun will remain closed at present, and the Haunted Mansion will return to its traditional 5 p.m. opening.

Funland is returning to normal operations with the full support of the State of Delaware, with which it has worked throughout the pandemic to ensure customer safety while slowly increasing capacity.

Funland’s motto during its COVID operations was Safety is the Ticket. More than 30 members of the Fasnacht family run Funland, and they worked hard to offer customers as close to the traditional Funland experience as possible while implementing the necessary safety guidelines and protocols.

“Our main objective through all of this has been to get back to our normal operations, with open doors and our traditional green tickets, and we can’t wait to do that on July 8,” said fourth-generation family member Fiona Curry. “We want to express our gratitude to everyone who supported us during the pandemic. It was a difficult time for many of us, and we really appreciate our customers’ understanding. We look forward to continuing to create family memories as we have for the last 59 years.”

Funland has been operating for 59 years of summers since it opened in 1962. The park still has five rides in operation from that first summer, and its Haunted Mansion ride is widely considered by experts to be one of the best in the country.

In addition to rides, Funland also offers 11 midway games, including Skee-Ball, the derby horse racing game and Whac-a-Mole.
