August 2, 2021

July 25 was a day of celebration for three of the children of Milford residents Dr. Bradley and Lisa Winston.

Grace Winston, Samuel Winston and Mercy Winston each received awards from Greenwood Memorial VFW Auxiliary President Margo Ellers, accompanied by Commander Robert Trapp at Greenwood Memorial VFW Post 7478 in Greenwood.

All three contestants were winners in the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, a VFW Auxiliary scholarship program that offers scholarships on the local post, district, department and national levels for young people who create patriotic art.

VFW Post 7478 presented cash awards for the winners. First place and $100 went to Grace Winston, a recent graduate of Winston Learning Academy of Milford. She also placed second at the Department of Delaware level at the state convention in June. Second place and $75 went to Samuel Winston of Winston Learning Academy; third place and $50 went to Mercy Winston, a recent Winston Learning Academy graduate.

The VFW Auxiliary’s Patriotic Art Scholarship contest has been presenting awards for the last 42 years to students in grades nine to 12.
