Food Lion foundation grants $3K to Sussex Crisis House

Sussex Community Housing Services, aka Crisis House, in Georgetown recently received $3,200 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed area residents. Crisis House will use the gift to supplement its food budget to feed approximately 50 individuals three meals a day each month.

“We are extremely grateful for the continued support from the Food Lion foundation. The increased cost of food puts a strain on our budget when trying to feed over 20,000 meals annually,” said Marie Morole, executive director.

Established in 1981, the Crisis House homeless shelter is an iconic local agency recognized for serving the homeless. As the only shelter in Sussex County to house men, women and children, it remains full throughout the year, providing housing, meals, support services and case management for approximately 30-90 days. The shelter also provides meals to local walk-in individuals.

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $10 million in grants.
