Voice of Democracy scholarship awarded to Indian River grad
Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 7234 recently awarded a $1,500 scholarship to Abby Wilson, an Indian River High School 2021 graduate, for her essay, “Why do Veterans Join the Veterans of Foreign Wars Organization."
The scholarship was awarded as part of the VFW National Auxiliary’s annual Voice of Democracy patriotic essay contest.
The VFW Voice of Democracy program provides high school students a unique opportunity to express themselves in regard to a democratic and patriotic-themed essay. Each year, more than 51,000 high school students across the country enter to win their share of more than $1.9 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
Post 7234 Auxiliary Scholarship Chair Karen Ware and Post 7234 Auxiliary President Ellen Reilly presented the $1,500 award at the Aug. 2 monthly Auxiliary meeting. Wilson now attends James Madison University.
