Sussex Housing Group hosts Coverdale cookout

Aug. 19 event brings multiple community resource organizations together
August 25, 2021

The Sussex Housing Group hosted a free cookout dinner at the Coverdale community Aug. 19.

The event provided an opportunity for Coverdale community members to meet with representatives of organizations including People's Place SAFE Program, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Stand by Me, La Esperanza, Just a Hand Up, Sussex County Housing and Community Development, Discover Bank, Sussex County Montessori School, Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, Sussex County Emergency Medical Services, Department of Natural Resources Police, First State Community Action Agency, and Delaware State Police.

Sussex County's Mobile Library was also in attendance and, in partnership with Beebe Healthcare, free COVID-19 vaccinations and health screenings were provided.

The Sussex Housing Group is a coalition that fosters safe, fair and affordable housing. The organization builds community based on the power of people and place. Every 12 to 18 months, the Sussex Housing Group chooses a new focus community to partner with. This partnership empowers the community to improve its physical conditions, access additional services, and conduct and implement a community needs assessment.
