Robert Allan Phillips, always had a story

September 8, 2021

Robert Allan Phillips of Sussex County, known universally as Bert, died suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, just shy of his 57th birthday, Aug. 31, 1964.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye, his sister Jackie Phillips of Milton and Bruce Phillips. He is survived by his siblings Terry Lewis and Karen Parsons.

Bert’s life was filled with those he would meet while at the beach, sitting in his favorite spot outside Starbucks, at the library or just walking around town. Always with sunglasses and something to say, you could be sure if you met up with him he’d have a story for you.

Bert resided with his “Family,” most recently at Lighthouse for Broken Wings and prior to that with HOM - House Of Mercy, both located in Sussex County.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m., at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing must be observed and masks worn by anyone attending.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lighthouse for Broken Wings, 179 Rehoboth Ave., #123, Rehoboth Beach, DE, 19971, or HOM - House of Mercy Transformation Center, 425 North Pine St., Seaford, DE 19973.
