Opening Ocean Eye Care fulfilled a longtime dream for local optometrist Jay Taylor II, OD.
After serving patients for 25 years at Delaware Eye Institute, Taylor said he opened the new practice to provide a more flexible, personalized approach to service, similar to a concierge concept.
“My philosophy is to provide patient care the right way,” Taylor said. “I’ll be seeing fewer patients in a day, so I can spend more time with them. This enables me to provide what patients and staff want, and ultimately what I want. If you do it right, everybody wins.”
Taylor said it was heartwarming that many of his existing patients, some of whom he has watched grow up for 25 years, continue to see him.
“I love the personal connection with patients,” Taylor said. “They make my job fun.”
Services offered include comprehensive eye exams; medical management of glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and dry eyes; eyeglasses, contact lenses and sunwear; and ocular emergencies.
Located in the Midway area, the brand-new office is bright and cheerful, with natural light flooding the space through large windows, and features a large selection of frames on display.
In addition to vision plans and medical insurance, Ocean Eye Care also accepts cash, check, credit cards, health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts.
After earning his undergraduate degree at James Madison University, Taylor received his optometry degree at Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. Before moving to Sussex County, he served three years in the U.S. Navy.
Taylor and his wife have raised three children in the area; his oldest daughter is currently in medical school, his son works for Amazon and his youngest daughter is a sophomore at St. Joseph’s University.
