An unlit Christmas tree sat on the Dewey Beach Baywalk Dec. 4 overlooking Rehoboth Bay. A crowd dressed in festive attire of Santa hats and elf costumes waited excitedly for the first flicker of lights. In the meantime, guests enjoyed drinks from The Lighthouse Restaurant and danced to music. Kelly Ranieri of the Dewey Beach Marketing and Event Communications Committee, which sponsored the event, led the countdown for the tree lighting. When the lights blazed into life, the crowd cheered and raised their glasses in excitement.
“This is the first year we have officially done it,” Ranieri said. “We hope to make it grow year after year. I mean, it’s beautiful – who else can light a Christmas tree on the bay? We can!”
