Paul Collins, enjoyed outdoors, camping

December 8, 2021

Paul Collins, 93, passed peacefully Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at home with his family around him.

Paul began his career with Robinson’s IGA Store in Lewes as their meat cutter for 16 years. He then became the supervisor of all the IGA stores on the Eastern Shore, working for B. Green and Company, where he retired after 25 years of service.

An avid sports fan, Paul loved the Phillies and the Eagles, but he loved watching his granddaughters Allison and Angela play field hockey and softball in high school and college the most. He was a very successful pitcher for Conley’s Christian Softball Team for several years.

Paul and Marie were members of the Whirl-A-Ways Square Dance Club and danced many Saturday nights. They enjoyed the outdoors and camped frequently with the Diamond Lace Away Campers, traveling to many states. Paul was an active member of Conley’s United Methodist Church. He served on many committees, most notably as president of the building committee, and helped with construction of Conley’s Fellowship Hall. This later became Conley’s Thrift Shop where he and Marie volunteered for many years.

Paul can be remembered almost always as being the best-dressed guy in the room. He had a contagious personality. He loved his family, he loved people, he loved life, but most importantly he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Norman and Hattie Collins; and his brother Norwood Collins. Paul is survived by his wife of 74 years, Marie Collins (Hart); three children, Richard Collins (Marci), Virginia Griffith (Mike), and Ann Hurley (Mike); three grandchildren, Matthew Collins (Daera), Allison Sullivan (Phil), and Angela Murray (John); three great-grandsons, Evan Murray, Eric Murray, and Cole Collins; his sisters-in-law, Charlotte Collins and Charlotte Hart; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson’s Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Conley’s United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyns Way, Lewes, DE 19958; or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
