Sandra W. Mooney, talented teacher

December 30, 2021

Sandra W. Mooney, born Dec. 30, 1946, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021.

It is with terrible sadness that we announce Sandy’s sudden death at Christiana Care in Newark, after a major stroke.

Sandy is a graduate of the University of Maryland and has a master’s degree from George Mason. She was an accomplished teacher of math and computer science in Virginia, and a district math specialist in Delaware. She enjoyed a lady’s golf league in Delaware and had a hole-in-one in Florida, and enjoyed Redskins football, cruises, Florida beaches in the winter and walking on the beach. She had a 43-year love affair with her husband, Michael. Sandy loved time with her kids and the nine grandkids. A beautiful, gracious, loving wife and grandmother is gone to be with her Lord. She is painfully missed.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Delores Wells and a sister, Diane Wells.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Michael Mooney of Ocean View, and her children, Stacia of Westminster, Md., Kara of Hunt Valley, Md., and Michael’s children, Kelly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Sean of Clarksburg, W.Va.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 14, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 35318 Church Road, Frankford, where friends may gather after 10 a.m.

Interment will be in West Virginia at a later date.
