The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present the Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD broadcast of composer Jules Massenet’s “Cinderella – Holiday Presentation” at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 8, with additional showings at 1 pm, Monday, Jan. 10, and 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11. Screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater and will be shown as a recorded presentation after being filmed live.
Laurent Pelly’s whimsical storybook staging of Massenet’s “Cendrillon,” a hit of the 2017-18 season, is presented with an all-new English translation in an abridged 90 minutes, with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as its rags-to-riches princess, Cinderella. In this production for all ages, Maestro Emmanuel Villaume leads a brilliant and delightful cast, which includes mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo as Cinderella’s Prince Charming, soprano Jessica Pratt as her Fairy Godmother, and mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe and bass-baritone Laurent Naouri as her feuding guardians.
In addition to the opera performance, the Live in HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scenes workings.
Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $25 for adults; $22 for RBFS members, Met members, and seniors 65+; $15 for students with ID and children 12 and under. Customers are encouraged to purchase admission online. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater 30 minutes before the screening.
