A different-looking Georgetown 25 years ago
There has been a lot of talk recently about deforestation as part of the continued development boom in Sussex County. Here is an aerial image made in July 1997 by Aerial Associates Photography showing Delaware Technical Community College near the intersection of Route 113 and Route 404. Nearly 25 years later, most, if not all, of the forested area at the bottom of this photograph is gone, now home to shopping centers with Walmart, Redner’s, Beebe Healthcare, La Red Health Center and many more shops, restaurants, hotels and service businesses. The farm fields on the other side of Del Tech remain mostly undeveloped today. The intersection of Routes 113 and 404 is likely to look much different in five or 10 years, as the Department of Transportation is in the process of planning a grade-separated intersection that will eliminate the traffic signal at the very busy crossroads.
