Kenneth H. Bryson, devoted French teacher

Kenneth H. Bryson passed away Friday, Feb. 4, at his home in Seaford. He was born April 17, 1938, in Hamlet, N.C., and was a 1956 graduate of Hamlet High School. He went on to attend East Carolina University, graduating in 1961 with degrees in both science and French. 

He came to Seaford in the fall of 1961 where he worked as the French teacher at Seaford Junior and Senior High until his retirement in 1991.  During his 30 years of teaching French, he took many of his students on school-sponsored trips to France.

In 1965 he won a scholarship to continue his study of French.  He traveled to Lyon, France, where he lived with a family in a 45-room castle that had been in the family for several hundred years and which still had furniture owned by Napoleon.

He enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, cycling, and patronizing good restaurants.  During his time in Seaford, he was voted outstanding young educator, he was a member of Seaford Historical Society, Archaeological Society, and a charter member of the Presbyterian church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Millicent Bryson of Hamlet; sister, Anita Collins, brother-in-law T.M. Collins; and nephew, Glenn Collins, all from Colquitt, Ga.  He is survived by his niece, Angie Kisfalusi (Ken) of Colquitt; great-niece, Hope Venditti (Justin) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several cousins in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin.  

Donations may be made to the Seaford Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 542, Seaford, DE 19973.  At his request, his body was donated to the Anatomy Board of Maryland.  His ashes will be buried in Hamlet in the Bryson family plot.
