Michael J. Zakrzewski, die-hard Eagles fan
Michael J. Zakrzewski, 46, of Millsboro, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at his home.
Mike was born July 21, 1975, in Wilmington, to Robert Joseph Zakrzewski and Debra E. (Succarotte) Zakrzewski. He had been a loyal employee of over 20 years with Blue Hen Organics and Cypress Tree Company through Tunnell Companies, working as a heavy equipment operator.
He loved to fish, boat, crab, camp, and overall, just spend time on the water. He made a point to spend every sunny weekend he could on his boat, especially if his nephew or niece were visiting. Mike was also a member of the One More Cast Surf Fishing Team.
He was also undoubtedly an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. Everything including his clothes, cups, and steak knives sported the signature Eagles logo. He enjoyed attending games with his family and friends.
If he wasn’t out fishing or spending time on the water you would find him cooking, grilling, laughing, and having fun with the ones he loved. Whether it was holidays, parties, or just a get-together with his family, you knew Grill-Master Mike would make something delicious. Seafood was definitely no exception. If he could catch it, he was cooking it, from crabs to fish to clams.
He always played an active role in his girls' lives, watching high school marching band and little league games. Mike was always their biggest fan and proud of both of his girls’ accomplishments.
Above all, he loved spending time with his family and was always the life of the party. He would help anyone in need and instantly made friends anywhere he went. In fact, it seemed he couldn’t go anywhere without bumping into someone he knew, and there was always plenty to talk about with him. Mike was a happy Sussex County man through and through. Mike had a great heart and a close relationship with God.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Robert Joseph Zakrzewski; his maternal grandmother, Veccy Warrington; and his uncle, Robert J. Succarotte. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 14 years, Catherine (Cole) Zakrzewski; two daughters, Skylar Cole and Faith Zakrzewski; his mother, Debra Zakrzewski; and two brothers, Robert J. Zakrzewski Jr. of Milton and Charles Williams and his wife Kristin of Milford. Mike is also survived by his mother-in-law, Deborah L. Lee and her husband Stephen of Millsboro; father-in-law, Thomas James Cole Jr. and his wife Cindy of Elkton, Md.; an aunt, Virginia Succarotte; two brothers-in-law, David Reid Cole of Millsboro and Thomas James Cole III of Tennessee; his sister-in-law, Erika Ujszaszy of Wilmington; three nephews, Thomas James Cole IV, Robert J. Zakrzewski III, and David Reid Cole Jr.; three nieces, Theodora Williams, Raven Cole and Abbey Ujszaszy; and two cousins, Sara Hastings and Patrick Succarotte.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, at Oak Orchard Community Church, Oak Orchard Rd., Millsboro, where friends and family may gather for visitation starting at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
