As greater numbers of individuals struggle with managing cancer, heart failure, pulmonary disease and countless other conditions, Bayhealth has expanded its services in palliative care, a specialized area of medicine focused on helping patients live better with their long-term illnesses.
Palliative care physician Matthew Debo, DO, MS, is the newest addition to the Bayhealth Palliative Care practice in Dover, where he is accepting new patients.
Bayhealth Palliative Care offers ongoing inpatient and outpatient care to support those with serious or chronic illnesses and their families. Debo joins Bayhealth advanced practice clinicians Theresa Latorre-Tegtmeier, NP-C; Suzette Flores, NP-C; Robin Maracle, AGCNS-BC; and Loretta A. Higgins, GNP-BC, in the practice. It is part of the Bayhealth Medical Group, a partnership of highly trained physicians, their clinical staff, and an administrative support team that operates medical practices throughout central and southern Delaware.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Debo,” said Lawrence Ward, MD, MPH, FACP, Bayhealth vice president, physician services and clinical integration. “He will be an asset to our community by providing medical expertise and compassionate care to those living with very serious and chronic illnesses, and will help improve quality of life for patients and their families.”
A graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Debo earned a master of science degree in biomedical sciences and a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree. He then completed an internal medicine residency at the Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education in Scranton, Pa.
Beyond residency, Debo went on to complete a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship through Penn State Health’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He later continued there as an inpatient and outpatient palliative medicine provider. He also served as associate program director for its hospice and palliative medicine fellowship along with being an assistant professor of medicine at the Penn State College of Medicine.
Debo is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He sees patients at the Bayhealth Palliative Care practice, 530 S. State St., Suite 107, Dover. To learn more, go to Bayhealth.org/Medical-Group.
