Michael R. Davis Sr., loved playing music

April 27, 2022

Michael R. Davis Sr., 71, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022. Mike graduated from Penns Grove High School, Class of 1968. He also attended Glassboro State College (Rowan) in New Jersey.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Susan Davis (DiPietro) of Carney’s Point, N.J.; along with all of his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a couple of his friends. Hopefully, Our Lord will have our beloved Yorkie, Rosie, with him to welcome Mike at heaven’s pearly gates. Surviving is his wife of almost 49 years, Kathy Davis (Hooks); his daughter, Kristin M. Davis and her daughters Cayleigh and Jocelyn Frambes; his son, Michael R. Davis Jr. and his wife Kristy Davis (Dennison), and their children, Bia, Michael, Annabella and Stephen; his sister, Mary Mazza (Davis), her daughter Marianne Murphy, her husband Tom, and their sons Brian and Aidan; his nephew, Raymond Mazza Jr.; many cousins from New Jersey, California, Delaware and Florida; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Harry Hooks, Bill Hooks and his wife Dora (Drabold), and Rick and his wife Kristy Hooks, and their children and grandchildren; and Mike’s longtime friends, Ed and Bev Covert; plus many more forever friends and coworkers.

Mike loved his family and friends. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was an enthusiastic workaholic. At 16 years old, Mike began working for A&P Tea Company.  A couple of times Mike had had his own businesses, a deli pizzeria and a supermarket. In more recent years in his career, Mike was the Acme Markets (Albertson’s) store director of large supermarkets down the New Jersey Shore and in Rehoboth. Mike was well educated in the supermarket business. If you had a question about anything, he could answer it or find the solution to solve the problem at hand.

Good times were spent with family and friends down the Jersey Shore and Delaware beaches. Mike’s favorite ways to enjoy himself when not working were taking his boat out with Kathy and others in the back bays, taking cruises to the Caribbean, or traveling to Italy. These were happy times. Years ago, work-related assignments took Mike and Kathy overseas to Romania and Warsaw. Mike was an avid and diehard Eagles sports fan. Mike’s real love was to play music with his previous classic rock band, Turning Point. The band performed throughout South Jersey at many bars and events including The Riverview Deck, Atlantic City, Yesterday’s outside of Ocean City, Ventnor, Egg Harbor City and Wildwood, and the Stone Pony. His band members and lifelong friends were Mike Collins, Dave Brown, Steve Parker and Jack Meili. Previous band members were John Lawless, Bill Monell and others.

Mike lost his battle against liver cancer and Parkinson’s. Many thanks to all doctors, nurses and ambulance services at Beebe Healthcare, Christiania Healthcare and Einstein Hospital. Also, thanks to his loving daughter Kristin, family, friends, and Patty and Sandy for their help and care; and more recently to the wonderful staff of Seasons Hospice Care/Accent Care. Between family, friends, Seasons Hospice/Accent Care and all medical staff, Mike’s journey was made easier.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 6, at Melson’s Funeral Home Long Neck Chapel, where friends can gather after 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
