Cape High JROTC Battalion Commander Marina Santini received one of the JROTC’s most prestigious awards, the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for outstanding achievement.
During the award presentation at the April 28 school board meeting, Cape High JROTC instructor Lt. Col. Ronald Erale said only four such awards are given each year in the region, which comprises North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.
Marina is ranked fifth in her class, Erale said, and has taken AP courses throughout high school. As battalion commander, she is the highest-ranking cadet at Cape High.
“She’s organized, efficient and very smart – all of the prerequisites for success,” Erale said.
Marina will head to University of Delaware in the fall.
