Family Fun: Coin Beach hike set March 17

March 4, 2012

Delaware Seashore State Park staff will lead a hike on Coin Beach at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 17, as part of its Family Fun series. The cost for this program is $4 per person and preregistration is strongly encouraged.

While this stretch of beach is best known for the Irish pennies that occasionally wash up on its shores, these artifacts speak to the great loss of life that historically occurred from shipwrecks along the coast.  Participants will join a park naturalist for a stroll along the beach and hear about the fate of the Faithful Steward, the vessel carrying the coins, and scout the beach for some treasures.

This program will meet at Indian River-Life Saving Station Museum on Route 1 in Delaware Seashore State Park, 1.5 miles north of the Indian River Inlet.
