On a day that felt more like March than May, 36 teams of golfers headed into the Jungle Jim’s putt-putt course to par-tee with First State Community Action Center for the nonprofit’s seventh annual miniature golf tournament to support community-based youth programs. Dressed in outfits ranging from full-body crayons to the Golden Girls, tournament participants were accompanied on the round by DJ Sky Brady’s beats pulsating throughout the grounds.
Following the round, golfers were treated to a luncheon at The Lodge at Truitt Homestead, where some were awarded superlatives for their efforts, participated in a costume catwalk, and were given a chance to win various prizes offered, including a 50/50 raffle.
Executive Director Bernice Edwards praised the attendance of all those involved and thanked all of the sponsors and organizations who donated their time and money to make the event such a success.
Proceeds from the event will benefit First State’s community-based youth programs that feature such services as education and workforce development.
