New pastor installed at Georgetown Presbyterian Church

Representatives from New Castle Presbytery installed the Rev. Lisa Salita as the new pastor of Georgetown Presbyterian Church at a joyful service in the sanctuary, which was colorfully decorated for Pentecost.

The Rev. Cindy Kohlman, connectional presbyter and stated clerk of New Castle, along with representatives from Presbyterian churches in the area, participated in the ceremony.

Offering the sermon was the Rev. Amy Lawrence, who grew up in Georgetown Presbyterian Church and is now the pastor serving Manokin Presbyterian Church in Princess Anne, Md. Commissioned Elder Rourke Moore led the installation. Congregants, family and friends were able to participate in the service remotely.  A reception followed in Tunnell Hall.

Before accepting the call to Georgetown Presbyterian, Salita served as interim minister at Madison Presbyterian Church, Madison, Va. She is a second-career clergywoman, ordained five years ago. Prior to earning her master of divinity degree from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Va., in 2014, Salita was active in Christian education, music and drama, and youth work at her home church, Three Chopt Presbyterian, in Richmond. She was ordained a ruling elder in 2007. Her career prior to seminary was with Anthem in Richmond as a business and process consultant and project manager.

Salita began her ministry at Georgetown in November. She and her husband Andy now reside in Georgetown.

“I had always felt called to work with small congregations that value their community. I look forward to working with Georgetown Presbyterian as we become even better neighbors and partners with those around us. We’ve already partnered with the local library to offer beginner Spanish classes so we can learn to communicate better,” said Salita.

Georgetown Presbyterian Church is at 203 North Bedford St. in Georgetown, one block from The Circle.
