The Lewes/Rehoboth 8-10 Little League all-stars outlasted Milton 16-14 in a back-and-forth contest July 7 in Lewes.
Lewes/Rehoboth advances to play Nanticoke Friday, July 8, in Lewes. Nanticoke defeated Georgetown 13-1.
Milton drops into the lower bracket, where they’ll play Georgetown July 8 in Bridgeville.
Milton struck first, scoring two in the top of the first inning. But the Lewes/Rehoboth team bit back in the bottom of the inning with eight runs. Milton tied the game at 8-8 in the second, but Lewes/Rehoboth bounced right back with three of their own. After three more back-and-forth innings, the Lewes/Rehoboth squad held on to squeak out a 16-14 slugfest.
Finn Gannon led the Lewes/Rehoboth team, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Lucca Fazio and Grant Herschelman slammed three RBIs each, with Fazio slamming a double. Briggs Gannon, Ben Pease, Mike Scesa, Luca Tobias and Jacobi Clark each knocked in a run.
Gannon, Pease and Tobias pitched for the Lewes/Rehoboth squad, teaming for five strikeouts while allowing 12 hits. Pease picked up the W.
Mason Conran led the Milton squad, going 4-for-4 and knocking in three RBIs. Nehemiah Woods, Cali Smith, Noah Smith and Lane Wyatt each knocked in a run.
Woods, Smith, Chase Madden and Conran teamed for five strikeouts while allowing 12 hits.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
