The Cape minor league all-star softball squad defeated Georgetown 4-1 July 10, to force a winner-take-all game Monday, July 11, for the District 3 banner. Georgetown had defeated Cape 2-1 earlier in the tournament July 7.
The score was 1-1 in the third inning when Cape busted it open, scoring three in the fifth to garner the victory.
Cape pitcher Riley Windish scattered seven hits, allowing just one run while striking out 13 Georgetown all-stars. She also helped her cause at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and scoring two runs.
Makaila Sellers and Taylor Huff both went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lily Frey slammed a hit, knocked in a run and scored a run. Mikayla Pollard went 3-for-3 and scored a run.
Georgetown was led by Brooke Holston who went 2-for-2 and knocked in Georgetown’s only run in the third. Rocsi Cannon went 3-for-3. Aspen Schaeffer and Aubrey Jones each had a hit.
Holston allowed 10 hits while striking out eight Cape batters.
The championship game will be played at 7 p.m., Monday, July 11, in Millsboro.
