Sussex Family YMCA welcomes new executive director

July 21, 2022

The YMCA of Delaware recently announced Joshua Lewis as the new executive director at the Sussex Family YMCA located on Church Street in Rehoboth Beach.

Having worked for the YMCA for more than 20 years, Lewis comes to the Delaware team with a wealth of experience. During his tenure at the Oldham County YMCA in Kentucky, Lewis served in several leadership capacities, creating positive change, and building successful programs that served children and families in his community. In his most recent position at YMCA of Greater Louisville, he led youth sports for the entire association of 10 YMCAs. Most notably, he rebuilt sports programs after they were shut down due to the pandemic.

“We are thrilled to welcome Josh to our Y of Delaware team,” said Jim Kelly, YMCA of Delaware interim CEO. “With his passion and dedication to the YMCA mission, Josh will be a great fit to deepen our impact within the Sussex community.”

The Sussex Family YMCA features a state-of-the-art fitness center, an indoor pool, sauna, full-size basketball gymnasium, several group exercise studios and more. Its many programs include swim lessons, summer camp, before- and after-school care, teen programs, free group exercise classes and personal training. The Sussex Y proudly provides nearly $50,000 in financial assistance each year, ensuring that everyone, regardless of income, has access to all the Y has to offer. In 2021, more than 225 children were able to attend summer camp at the Y thanks to financial assistance, and nearly 230 learned life-saving water safety and swimming skills.

“I am excited to continue my YMCA journey here in Delaware and am most looking forward to building community while expanding our impact in the Sussex area,” said Lewis. “Providing an inclusive space where everyone feels welcomed, offering quality programs for all and increasing family programming to meet the needs of our ever-growing community are top priorities.”
