The Lewes Base Ball Club was part of a 32-team field at the National 19th Century Base Ball Festival July 16-17 in historic Gettysburg, Pa. Lewes split its schedule, going 2-2 on the weekend. Two tough losses Saturday to the Providence Grays of Rhode Island and Flemington Neshanock of New Jersey were followed by Sunday victories over Monmouth Furnace of New Jersey and Keystone Club of Harrisburg, Pa. Teams from Tennessee, Florida, Maine, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Connecticut, as well as other teams from Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey took part in the two-day format. Games were played on historic farms surrounding the battlefield.
"We're always excited to be a part of the Gettysburg Festival," said Lewes Club President Mike DiPaolo. "It is the premier event of its kind in the nation, and visiting hallowed ground like Gettysburg means a lot to the guys on the team. Having a chance to compete against teams we don't normally see makes the event even better."
