BreastFest raises $16,000 for Tyanna Foundation

All proceeds to benefit Delawareans fighting breast cancer
August 2, 2022

The annual BreastFest raised precisely $16,356 for the Tyanna Foundation, with all monies earmarked to help Delawareans fighting breast cancer.

In 1990, 48-year-old Tyanna Barre O’Brien lost her battle with breast cancer, leaving behind five daughters. To honor their mother, these women created the Tyanna Foundation, a 100% volunteer organization that raises funds to fight the disease.

Daughter Anne O’Brien said the event has been held for 12 years in Dewey Beach, and many of the volunteers working that day were breast cancer survivors or family members.

Held July 24 at The Starboard this year, the event included silent auction items donated by local businesses and residents, a 50/50 raffle, and T-shirts and tank tops for sale.

Residents of Clayton Street, Read Avenue and Anchor Way even joined together to donate gift baskets for the silent auction, O’Brien said.

“This is truly a community event, and this community is so generous,” O’Brien said. “One of the greatest things about this town is the sense of community, and everyone pitches in.”
