Joseph Milton Lank, Army retiree
Maj. Gen. Joseph Milton Lank, 91, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022, in Fort Myers, Fla. He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Virginia Lank.
Joseph was born and raised in Milford. Joe graduated from University of Delaware in 1952. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. After graduation, he became a career field artilleryman in the U.S. Army and retired as a Colonel in 1980 to become the adjutant general of Delaware National Guard for eight years under governors du Pont and Castle.
Joe was inducted into University of Delaware’s Wall of Fame in 1985. He was also inducted into University of Delaware’s Sports Hall of Fame and the State of Delaware’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He served on the Delmarva Scout Council and on the Commission of Veterans Affairs for Delaware.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, and daughters, Liza Lank and partner Lori, Jennifer Cushing and husband John, and Linda Winchell and husband Don; five grandchildren: Brittany Gregg and husband Don, Jack and Lexi Cushing, Tyler Winchell and wife Jessica, and Grace Winchell; as well as a great-grandson, Alexander Winchell.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Lewes.
