Children’s Beach House holds Carnavale fundraiser

September 2, 2022

Children’s Beach House held its annual Beach Barbecue Aug. 27 on Bay Avenue in Lewes, with this year’s theme of Carnavale. Partygoers celebrated the flavors, colors, sounds and fashions of South America.

Live entertainment was provided by Sarah Freih, who sang hits from “Evita,” including “Don't Cry for Me Argentina.”

Gourmet cuisine for the event was prepared by chef Paula Baker. Delicious dishes from South American countries included Argentina’s picada, alfajores and chocotorta; pollo a la braso from Peru; feijoada and brigadeiro from Brazil; marraguenta from Chile; and flande coco from Columbia.

Beer and wine bars as well as an orange crush bar were sponsored by Paradise Grill along with wines from the Sposato family.

A live auction was led by auctioneer Richard Bryan, who presented items from Freedom Boat Club Delaware, Paradise Grill, Touch of Italy, Greater Good Events, Quest, The Station on Kings, Grain on the Rocks, Spain Wine Bar, Splash Mountain, Ocean City Tourism, CVB, Worcester County Tourism, Connie Marshall Miller, The Inn at Canal Square and Lewes Oyster House.

A wish wall of hats raised funds to provide transportation, school supplies, clothing, meals and enrichment activities for the children of CBH.

“We are thrilled to be able to help provide funding for programming and services at the Children's Beach House through events like these,” said event Co-Chair Cheryl Crowe. “We have great support from community leaders, local businesses, partner organizations, friends and generous sponsors.”

“It has been an honor and pleasure to be the co-chair of the Children’s Beach House Barbecue over the past five years,” said Karen Falk. “The Children’s Beach House offers childhood and youth development programs for children throughout Delaware. This fun event, with unique themes year after year, offers the opportunity to showcase and inform guests and community leaders about important programming while enjoying this end-of-summer spectacular throughout the complex and on the Beach House private beach yard. We thank our sponsors, supporters, guests, volunteers and the Children’s Beach House team for making this event such a success.”

All proceeds from Carnavale will support CBH’s work with children, youth and families across Delaware.
