Anthem resident calls out Huxtable

September 6, 2022

There has been a lot of flashy campaign literature from Russ Huxtable, who is acting in dual roles as state Senate candidate and Milford Housing Development vice president, the person responsible for the completion of our Anthem subdivision. The most recent mailing said, “connect with me.” I know quite a few of my Anthem neighbors who have connected with Mr. Huxtable via email and phone but have failed to get any meaningful resolution, so I’m connecting via the editorial page.

Mr. Huxtable, we paid a premium to buy a lot overlooking a meadow that remains a sad-looking construction zone that holds standing water and breeds mosquitoes. This is hardly the meadow you sold us.

Recently, I learned that you made a deal with Sussex County to remove our topsoil and are trying to avoid spending the money necessary to honor our original approved development plan, which required the construction of stormwater management infrastructure that would have rendered the area dry. That has only added insult to injury.

You delayed the construction of the walking path all summer instead of just getting the job done. You piled stone next to the pond where the other path is going, impeding the view of many neighbors that paid a premium to have said view, and stopped short of building that path. It’s becoming obvious that none of this work will be finished before it’s too cold to pave. Another year will pass without the application of the top coat of pavement on the streets. For many original residents, this has been three years of waiting and driving/walking around dangerous protruding manhole covers.

I call on you to use our subdivision as an example of how effective you’ll be as a senator by stepping up and honoring your commitments to the constituents you wish to serve. Build the proper stormwater management system to dry out the area behind my property. Maybe the Anthem votes aren’t numerous enough to matter to you, but you could use our subdivision as a district-wide example to demonstrate that you have the integrity to do the right thing, which you will be required to do on a much larger scale should you win this election.

Mr. Huxtable, step up and fulfill your commitments to us before you attempt to take on a larger role as our senator.
