Summer House, a favorite of downtown Rehoboth Beach for more than 40 years, is set to be sold.
The sale is expected to be finalized by mid-September. The buyer is Regan Derrickson, owner of Nalu in Rehoboth and Dewey Beach, who is purchasing it from a group of owners that included Big Fish owner Eric Sugrue and former Rehoboth Mayor Paul Kuhns.
Sugrue said the sale is expected to go through Tuesday, Sept. 13. He said he wanted to hold off on commenting on the sale until it’s finalized. Kuhns confirmed that the sale is happening, but he is in the background and does not have much to report on it.
Derrickson said he plans for the restaurant to stay as Summer House, but with upgrades. He said there are plans to modernize the inside and outside of the building, but keep the Summer House’s essential character. The restaurant will also feature a brand-new menu, but keep the popular half-price burger night on Mondays.
Derrickson said, “We will be paying homage to the 45 years of Summer House history throughout the inside bar area. There will be many nods to the past and the original Summer House that won’t go unnoticed, but we will be moving forward with lots of new things relevant to today.”
He added that the old DJ booth will be reopened with DJs spinning nightly, and that Tuesday Iced Tea Night with Mooney’s Iced Tea will also return.
Summer House will be open daily from 11:30 a.m to 1 a.m.
