October 10, 2022

The IV Drip Bar at 201819 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22.

Guests can have a tour of the space and hear about the immunity-boosting benefits of vitamin injections and IV therapy. They also will have the opportunity to meet the owners of Studio One Yoga and Wellness Loft, Rehoboth Beach Barbell Club and Rehoboth Boxing.

“Australia has had an alarming uptick in influenza and COVID-19 cases. As Australia’s winter is the summer in the U.S., it is often a predictor of what we can expect here. Many of us are aware of steps that we can take to minimize the chances that we will succumb to infection – wash hands regularly, mask up in public, get adequate sleep, exercise and eat well. However, there are some additional ways to boost immunity that many of us may not be aware of,” said Dr. Tania Pritz, IV Drip Bar co-owner.

“As we move into fall and fewer hours of daylight, Vitamin D levels often drop. Even in the midst of summer, many of us protect our skin with sunscreen and protective garments. While this may protect us from skin cancer, it does negatively impact the ability of our bodies to convert sunlight to Vitamin D. Vitamin D plays a critical role in the body's immune system and is known to enhance the function of immune cells. Additionally, Vitamin D inhibits some of the inflammation that can make COVID-19 more severe. Oral supplementation is fairly common, but absorption rates of supplements taken by mouth is typically under 50%, and often as low at 10-30%,” she said.

Pritz said intramuscular injections are a more effective delivery system for many vitamins. Injecting vitamins bypasses barriers to absorption that can occur in the gastrointestinal system. Higher dosages can be injected than can be taken orally, so a monthly injection can replace daily oral vitamins.
