Edward A. Fox, well-respected educator
Edward A. Fox, 81, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, at Holy Spirit Hospital. He was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Mechanicsburg, the was the son of the late Esther (Dunkleberger) and Carolus E. Fox Sr.
Ed received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Bloomsburg University and his master’s degree in environmental science from Shippensburg University. In addition to his academics, he was a talented trumpet player, and participated in numerous music festivals, the intercollegiate band, and the music honor society. A passionate, exuberant, and well-respected educator who was also well-known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he taught biology and inspired countless students at Cedar Cliff High School for 33 years. He had served as head of the science department for 17 years. His education endeavors extended beyond the school’s walls as he headed up both the Youth Conservation Corps at Pinchot State Park for several years, as well as trips to the Marine Science Consortium, which offered students the opportunity to travel to Wallops Island for unique field studies.
Always looking to provide for his family, Ed worked outside of school hours as a painter, often alongside his father. He was a skilled artist and craftsman but was also a handyman who could fix practically anything. His strong work ethic extended to the maintenance and care of his yard, as he was known to always have the nicest yard in the neighborhood. Ed was also a man of strong faith and enjoyed attending, and especially singing at church, both at New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lewes, as well as New Covenant Fellowship in Mechanicsburg, Pa. In his free time, Ed loved spending time with his family, enjoyed playing golf, birding, cheering for Penn State and he loved wintering in Florida.
Surviving is his loving wife of 43 years, Jeanne (Dellinger) Fox; his children: Crystal Fox and partner Rebecca Burns, Ed “Ted” Fox and wife Maren, Doug Kassay and wife Christine, and Susan Rutter and husband Matt; his grandchildren: Alex, Cade, Emily, Zoe, Avery, Angela, Joel and Hannah; and his great-grandchildren: Tanner and Olivia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl E. Fox Jr.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15 at New Covenant Fellowship, 4500 Creekview Road, Mechanicsburg, Pa, where there will be a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m.
