Lewes Fire Department to host Station 2 open house Oct. 20
The Lewes Fire Department will host its third annual open house at Station 2 from 4:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at 32198 Janice Road.
Free parking will be available at the Lewes Senior Activity Center and the Red Men Lodge, with free van shuttle service provided to transport visitors to and from their cars.
There will be children’s activities, equipment display, live fire and vehicle extrication demonstrations, a smoke house, exit drills in the home presentations and a drone station. Kids can try on small-scale gear to really feel the weight of what it takes to be a firefighter. The LFD Auxiliary will have a decorate-and-eat, fire-themed sugar cookie station.
Lewes Fire Department T-shirts will be offered for sale in adult and children’s sizes, promoting the Prevention Through Education theme. Other fire department merchandise items will also be available. Lewes Fire Department now accepts Venmo for easy purchasing.
Fat Vinny’s, Tipsy Flamingo, SmashMouth Burgers, as well as Revelation Craft Brewing, will be on site for dinner and drink purchases.
Children are invited to partake in a scavenger hunt. If they visit eight of the activities to have their passport stamped by a member, they will receive a State Farm prize, compliments of Jeanine O’Donnell, plus a 2022 Lewes Fire Department Challenge Coin.
Sparky the Fire Dog will be available for high fives and photo opportunities throughout the night. There will also be raffles for items including men’s and women’s bikes, Lewes Fire Department memorabilia and the opportunity for four people to ride in a fire truck during the Lewes Christmas Parade.

Information will be available for anyone who would like to learn more about joining the Lewes Fire Department. There are numerous ways to help and volunteer. Since 1796, citizens of Lewes have stepped forward to join the ranks of the city’s volunteer fire service. For 200 years, the association has been filled with men and women wanting to serve others.
