Teresa Lynne Vignola, enjoyed traveling, entertaining
Teresa Lynne Vignola passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her wife, Nancy Shields, whom she loved deeply, and her beloved companion poodle, Cali.
Terry was born in San Diego, Calif., before moving to Rehoboth Beach at a young age. She graduated from Cape Henlopen High School in 1978 and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1983. She helped run the family resort cottages, the Cove, in Dewey Beach, and worked for many years at the Camel’s Hump in Rehoboth Beach. She subsequently moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she lived for 20 years and worked as vice president of operations for National Maintenance Inc., part of a long career in healthcare support services that included stints at Aramark, ABM, Sutter Health, and Diversified Maintenance. She was also the founder and CEO of Safe Concepts. While living in California, Terry took up karate, eventually earning a black belt and competing in international tournaments.
When Terry and Nancy weren’t traveling, including trips to The Villages to visit her parents, they were happiest hosting the people they loved at their home in Rehoboth Beach. Terry came alive in the kitchen, and she threw legendary dinner parties for her many friends and family. The dinner parties were often known to evolve into dance parties or drinks around the backyard fire pit.
In addition to Nancy, Terry is also survived by her parents, Ray and Adel; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Sue Vignola, and Ted and Diane Vignola; her nephews and nieces-in-law, Mikey and Anna Vignola, and Rory and Kadra Vignola; and a great-niece, Adela. She will also be missed by her father-in-law, Jim Shields; her siblings-in-law, John and Susan Hickey, Paul and Jennifer Shields, and Mike and Linda Gillan; as well as her nieces and nephews, Meghan, Patrick and Andrew Hickey, Ryan, Jake and Lindsay Shields, and Alex, Kevin, Bridget and Kerry Gillan.
Family and friends are invited to visit at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 10, at Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 W. Chester Pike, West Chester, Pa., with a remembrance celebration at noon. Following the remembrance will be a Celebration of Life party befitting Terry, with plenty of food and drinks to enjoy while listening to live music and ending late in the evening with fireworks. The celebration will be held at the home of Mike and Linda Gillan in Broomall, Pa.
