Delaware-based Paul Cullen Wines introduces Lambrusco
Lewes-based Paul Cullen Wines recently announced the addition of Lambrusco to its collection of private-label wines in the Artist Series.
“Lambrusco is both a red grape and a wine, and although it experienced a boom in the United States in the 1970s, the wine is much, much older,” said Cullen, a sommelier, private chef and musician. “In fact, it’s older than Cabernet.”
Indeed, some believe the Etruscans cultivated the vine, and the Romans valued Lambrusco for its high yields. But after a sweet version of Lambrusco rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s, the wine got a bad rap. No longer.
“Our wine is not your mom’s version,” said Cullen, who toured with Bad Company before entering the hospitality arena.
Nina Peery, marketing and sales manager for Paul Cullen Wines, said, “A true Lambrusco is never cloyingly sweet; it has a firm acidity with a pleasant floral aroma. It has a slightly sparkling quality that makes it refreshing, and the low ABV makes it perfect for brunch, lunch or a picnic.”
Most of the Lambrusco production is in Emilia-Romagna, also home to balsamic vinegar, prosciutto and parmesan-reggiano cheese.
Cullen’s wines also include Roero Arnies, Barbera di Asti, Rosé and Rosso di Toscana.
