Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to take in the Howard Schroder art exhibition at the Fort Miles Museum. Whether you are an art aficionado or just enjoy paintings of Lewes, the beach and the nearby lighthouses, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the exhibit. Howard Schroeder is arguably the most famous artist from Delaware, and the 40 or so pieces of art on display show his prodigious talent and versatility. From still lifes and landscapes to nudes and self-portraits, he took on all manner of subjects, and he was equally adept in watercolor, oil painting, pen-and-ink and palette-knife oil paintings. A lecture by John Schroeder on his father's art took place March 19. Attending the lecture and getting a chance to talk to family members (who were often featured in Howard Schroeder's art) gives one a depth of art appreciation and interest you usually don't find when just touring an art museum. It really is great fun!
The last two days of the exhibit are March 25 and 26. The lecture is at noon, Sunday, March 26, and the gallery is open from noon to four p.m. both days. Entrance costs $5 per person and includes the lecture, the art exhibition and the opportunity to roam the exhibits of the Fort Miles Museum. Be sure to sign up for the lecture on Howard Schroeder's art by emailing info@fortmilesmuseum.org, since seating is limited.
